Make a date to see a performance at Desert Stages Theatre (www.DesertStages.org). The caliber of stage entertainment at this nonprofit community playhouse is always a delight– a burst of theatrical energy and joy. That’s Desert Stages Theatre on the corner of Scottsdale Road and Highland, north of Scottsdale Fashion Square Since 1995, DST has produced and presented everything from originals such as Gerry Cullity’s Alice in Wonderful to a few years back a version of Ragtime that reduced us to tears. It was that fantastic. Cofounded by Gerry Cullity, his beautiful and warm-hearted spouse Laurie Cullity and his mother Joan Thompson, the trio, on a wing and a prayer – he straight from Broadway; she a Broadway dancer and later dance school owner, and theatre-expert Joan ventured to Arizona to begin what was first a children’s theatre and now a four-series playhouse that lights up two stages nearly 400 times a year! Gerry has since passed on, but Laurie carries on the vision as executive director.
